Dear Members, Dear Colleagues,
This will be my last communication as Chair of the Board of Directors of BOMA Quebec. It is now time to pass the torch on to the incoming president of our Association. We will be pleased to announce his or her nomination very soon, i.e. at the annual general meeting on April 11.
I consider it a privilege to have been able to help lead the mission of BOMA Quebec, an organization that has inspired and shaped my own career in so many ways. I would like to thank you for the trust and support you have shown me throughout my mandate.
We manage working and living environments that are fast-changing, constantly evolving in step with technological innovations, the changing nature of work, the expectations of building occupants, climate change, regulatory changes and a thousand other issues that we all deal with as property managers.
The mandate of BOMA Quebe is extensive and important. Bringing people together, providing them with information, support and anticipating their needs, keeping abreast of an evolving context, defending our interests and encouraging implementation of new practices, developing expertise and so on. Our association is constantly evolving and I have tried, humbly and energetically, to contribute to those goals.
In 2022 I promised to develop new practical tools to assist you in integrating ESG factors into your policies and practices. At the BOMidi event on April 3 it will be our pleasure to introduce the new Guide to ESG Factors in Real Estate - Understanding the Extrafinancial Performance of the Canadian Real Estate Industry. The presentation will be made by Jean-Michel Champagne, senior advisor, Sustainable Transition Management and a teacher at HEC Montréal.
The guide is the result of the efforts of BOMA Quebec’s new ESG committee, working in conjunction with HEC Montreal’s social impact hub IDEOS. It is a first step in the right direction, and there will be others. I am very pleased to have been involved in bringing it to fruition. The project was particularly close to my heart, and I sincerely hope that you will benefit from it and implement ESG actions that reflect your particular context.
BOMA Quebec has given me a lot. The idea of giving back is what led me to accept the presidency and become involved with this dynamic team two years ago.
There will always be plenty to do to improve our practices and sharpen our expertise. With this fine team I have been committed as president to bringing people together and undertaking relevant projects that will contribute to the professional development of our members, actions that will ensure BOMA Quebec’s leading position in the real estate ecosystem. Our recent submission as part of the public consultations on Bill 41 regarding the environmental performance of buildings is another example of our proactive approach. BOMA Quebec will keep a close eye on developments and will provide you with the best possible support in the months and years ahead.
BOMA Quebec has many upcoming projects underway, and the coming year should prove to be very stimulating. My successor will be sure to let you know more in that regard. We've got some great announcements coming up.
I would like to thank my colleagues on the board of directors, our full-time staff, annual partners, our diverse collaborators and the hard-working volunteers I have had the pleasure of encountering during my mandate. Special thanks to executive director Linda Carbone for her invaluable advice and support.
It’s been a real pleasure working with all of you.
Thank you for your confidence, and I look forward to seeing you at a future BOMA event.
Best regards,
Linda Plante
