Faced with Bill 041, BOMA Quebec took a position to defend the interests of owners and managers, not by opposing logical and justifiable approaches aimed at a return to historic decisions on the use of fossil fuels, but rather to all those likely to burden the real estate economic activity sector through counterproductive actions, in particular the intention to establish a rating and display it on buildings.
BOMA Quebec did not receive the necessary attention from the authorities. Failing to obtain an understanding of real estate dynamics from elected officials, the presentation of his brief nevertheless highlighted the need to ensure that a quotation and its display are:
- Accurate taking into account the diversity of operations and uses of buildings.
- Non-discriminatory for those who have made historic choices to use fossil fuels
- And above all, sufficiently credible if display must be required without generating commercial harm.
The Bill 41 file is evolving rapidly and the government's intentions are becoming clearer. Download the overview of the SDCPB's regulatory intentions.
In the coming months, the next step will be the adoption of related regulations allowing the authorities to act. These steps will mobilize our attention to support our members in these changes and try to influence logical and acceptable relaxations and considerations for the real estate sector.
